The Ramblers are inviting walkers to explore their local woods on a free guided walk this autumn, with a series of events around England between 27 October and 4 November.

'Woods are synonymous with autumn' say the Ramblers. 'The amber glow of the trees, leaves crunching under foot, the sight of rutting deer and the weather serving up anything from a crisp breeze and blue skies to moody damp days full of inviting puddles [you what? Ed.]'

To celebrate all that is great about woods the Ramblers, in association with environmental charity the Tree Council, will be running over 80 walks around England from Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire to Detchant Park in the Kyloe Hills of Northumberland, with routes ranging from easy three-mile strolls to strenuous 14-milers.

All walks take in a significant stretch of forest or woodland, making them a great opportunity to enjoy a 'tree-lined walk full of woodland wildlife in a safe and sociable atmosphere'.

Ramblers leaders will supervise each walk, which are all free and open to anyone.

To find an autumn outing near you visit the Ramblers' Group Walks Finder, or use their mapping search to pinpoint a walk – just add your chosen location and choose "A Walk in the Woods" as your theme.
