The Coire Gabhail (Lost Valley) bridge in Glen Coe will be closed to public access for repair work for two months from Tuesday 19 June. Walkers and climbers will need to take a detour.

The bridge (NN173563) is the main crossing point for routes from the A82 into Coire Gabhail and Gearr Aonach.

Essential repair work will be carried out by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) over an eight-week period commencing 19th June. The steps on the north side are to be replaced; a metal rope handrail will be fitted on the south side and the bridge itself will have new decking, side and hand rails.

Hillwalkers and climbers will not be able to access the site during this period and will need to take an alternative line over the bridge at Coire Nan Lochan (NN167567). The NTS have clearly signed this closure at all major access points to the bridge and apologise for any inconvenience during this time.

NTS Property Manager Scott McCombie said:

'We're working closely with the contractors to keep any disruption to a minimum, and of course, to minimise the environmental impact of carrying out building work at this high altitude.'

'We would urge everyone planning to walk in the area to please heed the signs that are there and to follow advice on alternative routes. We want people to enjoy their time in the hills and to be as safe as is possible.'

The Trust has been sharing information with mountaineering organisations, the local council, Scottish Natural Heritage and others to ensure as many people as possible know about the forthcoming works.
