Win a Jöttnar Hymir Smock ? The World's Lightest NeoShell® Mountain Jacket Winner

© Jottnar

WINNER: RobDay

Hymir is a streamlined, focused, ultra-lightweight, technical hooded climbing smock, constructed from the world’s lightest grade of Polartec NeoShell.

Building on the success of Jöttnar’s other NeoShell products, Hymir was designed to be light and packable enough to be clipped to a harness, carried, or hauled without any undue physical penalty, but also robust enough to withstand rigorous use in serious conditions.

Steve Howarth, Jöttnar co-founder, describes Hymir’s evolution: “NeoShell has been a huge success story for us and so we decided to build on this with the creation of a highly versatile and lightweight smock.  It couldn’t be what we called ‘silly light’ – that’s easy to achieve, but doing so always compromises functionality and harsh weather performance. At 330g with a proper mountain hood, the best waterproof, breathable membrane we have, and in a micro-ripstop configuration with a proper suite of technical features, we think we nailed it.

“We see Hymir as a perfect tool for long multi-pitch rock routes and ski-mountaineering where weight really matters. It’s also had unexpected uptake amongst our mountain-biking cousins looking for the robustness you would not typically get in a cycling shell, but without the weight penalty you might expect in a mountain shell”

Amongst other features, Hymir has a YKK Aquaguard front half-zip for reduced weight, a harness compatible chest pocket with YKK Aquaguard zipper, a wire stiffened hood brim with fully mouldable peak, internally protected hood pull cords to eliminate whipping, and a zippered stuff sack with a carabiner loop for harness carriage.
