Mason started climbing as a young child in the trees around his house in Massachusetts. Eventually he started climbing rocks, and at age 18 he moved to the western US where he has lived since. The best climbing adventures are always the ones that went terribly wrong. Like the time Mason got blood poisoning in French Polynesia, or the time one of his portaledges collapsed during a fierce Patagonian storm, or the time he didn’t bring enough food on a trip to Venezuela and spent the month on the verge of starvation. Mason has always been drawn to exploring for new rock climbs, especially cracks.
