Langdale Skyline Lit up by Rescue Team
Lakeland's most recognisable skyline was lit up spectacularly on Wednesday night to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team.
The 7th Lakeland Festival of Light took place on Catbells on Saturday 1st April. The night time charity event, in which hundreds of volunteers illuminate the fell from bottom to top, has supported various charities since it started in 2015.
On the evening an estimated 2,500 people gathered to help create the now-familiar string of lights, which would have been viewed by many more in and around Keswick. As well as torch-wielding walkers, the event included boats on Derwentwater.
Fundraising this year is for The Michelle Jurd Trust, a Cumbrian based charity which provides outdoor opportunities for young people in Cumbria.
"The scene on the fell was one of the best we've ever had" said organiser Matt Le Voi of Lakeland Mountain Guides.
"As always, I'm blown away by the support from friends and colleagues to help make this event happen, as well as local businesses who helped contribute to an excellent raffle. We've currently raised over £8,000 for The Michelle Jurd Trust and I'd love to smash our £10,000 target."
