The route table on crag/hill pages has been redesigned from the ground up to provide more functionality and ease of use. Alongside this, a new notification system has been launched to keep you up to date with your favourite UKC/UKH content!

Logbooks

Every crag and hill page will now sport a sleeker route table, showing more information than it used to, along with lots of new features to help you find and log routes. Moving the old three-table-wide design into just one big table has allowed us to fit in more data, while separating it out to make it more readable. Using the improved search bar will show only the routes with a matching name, buttress, description. If desired, you can change what to search through (e.g. only search route names) in the Display Options popup. Below the improved search bar, is the the buttress header (note, on UKH this is different), and clicking on a buttress will scroll down directly to that buttress in the table. The highlighted buttress will also change as you scroll through table.

Filtering routes

The new filter options can be accessed after clicking the Filter button next to the search bar. This will allow you to filter by climbing type, grade, number of stars and much more. Similar to the filter button, the headers of the table can be clicked to change the ordering of the routes. For example, clicking the "Stars" header will order all the routes by stars (descending), and a second click will order them from low to high. When ordering the table, the buttress dividers won't be visible again until you re-order by the default header by clicking the header.

You can show/hide certain columns as you see fit, and your browser will remember this option. To do so click the icon and change the checkboxes in the popup. On smaller screens such as phones, the "Type" and "Number of logs" columns are hidden by default, but you can override this here; however it may require you to scroll horizontally to see everything in the table.

As per the old system, ticking a route's checkbox (also achieved by clicking any part of the row) will highlight it and bring up options to save any highlighted route either to your wishlist, or to log an ascent. The route name can be clicked to open that specific route, and the button will reveal the route's description as well as any other data (including data from hidden columns). Finally, at the end of the row, if the route is in the Rockfax app, a Rockfax logo button will show, and clicking it on mobile will open the climb in the Rockfax app.

We hope you like the new design. Though some may miss the three-table-wide design, we thought it was dated and didn't allow for any of the new features we've now added.

UKH Logbooks

As mentioned, the hill pages have also had a refresh. The map is now on the main tab, with suggested nearby routes and hills shown next to it. The route table itself is now split up by ascent type, first is summits, then scrambles, Via Ferrata, mixed routes, alpine routes, low grade trad routes, and finally winter routes. You'll still be able to use all the features detailed above, such as searching, ordering, and filtering, but in a way more applicable to UKH.

Notifications

Notifications

You can now get personalised notifications! Though still in its early stages, you can now keep up to date with new content on UKC and UKH, be that new articles, replies to your posts, or new posts in your favourite forums. To get started, click the button on any page, and from there you will be prompted to go to the notification settings. From here you can manage what notifications you get, and tweak how they are shown.

If you have any unread notifications, a little numbered badge will appear next to the button. Clicking the bell icon will open the notification sidebar. Notifications will be marked as read when you click on them, or by clicking the associated icon (on mobile, swipe the notification to the left to reveal this). Notifications can be deleted by using the buttons at the top of the notification sidebar, or by clicking a notification's associated button.

We hope to add more types of notifications in the future, along with push notification support on supporting devices. For now, enjoy personalised notifications across UKC/UKH!

  • Due to the scale of the changes that had to be made, you may spot the odd bug. If you find any, please let us know in the comments, and we'll try to get them fixed ASAP.
If you have any other suggestions for the logbooks, or elsewhere on the site, please contact us here

I'm still seeing the old version, but I'm sure that will change soon.

Question: have you updated/improved the 'graphs' section? I've always thought you could do SO much more with that. For example, rather than having a cumulative total of all the grades I've climbed, ever, it would be good to have those broken down by year. Rather than just red/green, also, would be cool to see how many were dogs vs dnf. And so on. At the moment, the info displayed is very basic but with the data you have it seems more could be done?

Having said that my resolution this year was to stop worrying about my 'average grade', so maybe I should stop looking at that part of the site entirely anyway.

Probably just due to caching. Could try a force refresh.

This update improved a lot of the backend, meaning it will be a lot easier for us to make graphs and stats like the ones you mentioned. Cant give an eta on that yet, but it will happen!

Glad to hear it!

Hmmm tried doing a hard refresh (safari) and logging in for the first time on Chrome, and still seeing the old version.

No idea if that is useful information for you.

Is the 'show partners ascents' facility still available? Is it still possible to hover the mouse over a route - rather than opening it - to see when I did it, like before?
