"Glenpean bothy was originally an estate cottage. It was one of the earliest renovation projects undertaken by the MBA and has been maintained by us as an open shelter since 1968" say the MBA'

"It was latterly owned by the charity The Bothy Trust, who indicated to us in late 2017 that they wished to relinquish that ownership and asked if we would be able to take it on. We are delighted to do this and in so doing ensure the future of this open shelter which sits in the midst of some wild and remote country, in an area which is important for hill walking and other outdoor activities."

Apart from Over Phawhope and now Glenpean, all of the many other bothies that the charity looks after are in private hands, and maintained with the agreement and encouragement of their owners.
