Following a successful inaugural event in 2014, Llanberis is again hosting an Envirotrek Clean Up day on Sunday 24 May. The idea is that participants first put something back into the mountain environment by picking up rubbish, and then enjoy some outdoor activities as a reward.
Billed as a fun event for all ages, the day is put on by local activity providers and backed by Respect the Mountains, a Dutch-based organisation that promotes sustainable mountain tourism. Held in countries all over Europe, Envirotrek days aim to get volunteers out on the ground with rubbish sacks, to promote 'positive mountain awareness', and to help build links in the outdoor community.
In the morning teams of volunteers will spend a couple of hours spring cleaning the shores of Llyn Padarn, and then after a barbecue lunch the afternoon is play time, with a range of supervised outdoor activities on offer.
The event at Padarn Adventures, Llanberis, starts at 10am Sunday 24 May, and wraps up around 4pm. Entrance fee is £10 for adults and £5 for under-12s, and participants are encouraged to wear appropriate outdoor clothing.
