Christopher Whitfield, 42, left his parent's home in Shropshire on the morning of Sunday 24th with the intention of walking in Snowdonia - something he's said to often do alone. He had been booked to stay in the Bryn Tyrch hotel in Capel Curig, and his dark blue Porsche was later found in a layby close to Tryfan in the Ogwen Valley. But since Sunday he has failed to make contact or respond to calls from his family and friends.

The emergency services were alerted on Wednesday 27th June.

North Wales Police and Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team supported by the RAF Mountain Rescue and helicopter, NEWSAR (North East Wales Search and Rescue) and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association Wales) began an immediate search. Searches have been concentrated in the Tryfan area.

Police say Mr. Whitfield will have been properly dressed and equipped but those searching are still concerned for his safety and are appealing for help from any other walkers or climbers who may have seen him.

PC Mark Howell-Walmsley of North Wales Police said:

'Christopher Whitfield is a fit and healthy man, about 5' 10" tall with grey thinning hair and of slim build. He would have been appropriately dressed for conditions but at this stage we do not know exactly what he was wearing. Mr. Whitfield is a regular visitor to the area and often stays in the Bryn Tyrch Hotel in Capel Curig where he had booked to stay this week. If anyone has seen him either by his Porche, on the mountains or in the area of the hotel I would ask they make immediate contact with Police.'

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 101 or alternatively via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
