The Mountain Bothies Association (MBA) has today announced its adoption of a new bothy on Jura, its second on the island and the 79th building in Scotland to be maintained by the Association as an open bothy.

Cruib is situated at NR566828 on the shore of Loch Tarbert, on Jura's superbly wild west coast. The MBA has already been looking after Glengarrisdale bothy on the island for a number of years.

With the agreement and assistance of Ruantallain Estate, an MBA work party earlier this month undertook major work to make the old lodge at Cruib wind and watertight and generally habitable as a bothy. Although considerable further work has still to be done the building can now be used by visitors, say the MBA. However, they point out that the estate stalks stags and hinds during the period July to February, and ask intending visitors to let the estate know of plans to visit the bothy during this period.
