New Wasdale Minibus

Starting later this month, a new minibus service will bring public transport to Wasdale, an inaccessible corner of the Lakes and an infamous transport dead zone.

The bus will link Seascale station with Wasdale Head via several intermediate points. Timed to connect with rail services from Carlisle and Barrow, it should help make fells such as Pillar, Kirk Fell and the Scafells more feasible as day trips for public transport users. It also opens up the possibility of linear routes through to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

In its first year of operation the service runs as a single out-and-back journey on Saturday only, between 31 March and 29 September. It is hoped that if the venture proves popular it'll be more frequent in future. With the morning run leaving Seascale at 10:10 and the afternoon return departing Wasdale Head at 17:10, anyone planning on visiting several felltops on a day return will have to look lively.

Any single or return journey costs £5. With only 16 seats available it might be wise to book ahead - call 01946 723227
