New BMC Website
The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) have launched their new website. Have a look here: BMC WEBSITE.

As is often the case with large new websites, there may still be a few bugs or broken links, but these are in the process of being fixed. Here at UKC towers we've had a surf around the new BMC site and we like it.

One of the team behind the new BMC website is Alex Messenger. He's the editor of Summit magazine, BMC website technical guru, a top photographer and a DIY lover, but more importantly than any of that, he's got the 5th highest scoring photo gallery on UKClimbing.com - well done Alex!

Looks OK. First thing I looked for was the Clubs link. There isn't one. So I did a search. Every page linked to via the search results failed with a 404 error. If I then used the Google search that appears on the 404 page, that didn't even return any results, it just gave another 404 error! Eventually got to Clubs by clicking on the "latest clubs news" at the bottom, and then the Clubs link within that page. I can't find the Huts list at all though. Will there be a searchable Huts database like the one that used to exist but was "temporarily" removed when the site was last redesigned a few years ago? Web site redesigns are fair enough, but are a bad thing if they result in reduced functionality.

You'll forgive us if we don't post much on this thread - we're busy squashing bugs and adding links. But two things: 1) We now have a dedicated Google site search. So when it's working it'll be much better than before 2) Clubs finder is at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/map#clubs Huts is at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/map#huts Walls is at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/map#walls Shops with discounts at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/map#shops cheers.

The google search will be searching its index of the old pages still, with old page ids. We still need to map the old urls to the new ones.

Thanks, those maps are pretty good. Is there a link to them via the home page? Would you prefer feedback/whingeing via this thread, or by email?

Sure you are aware of this and working to fix it, but it seems that the Regional Access Database is inaccessible currently. New site looks good, once glitches are fixed it will represent a big improvement. Good luck fixing the tech stuff!
