The Outdoors Show

A quick reminder that the The Outdoors Show 2012 is being held at the ExCeL in London starting this Thursday 12th and continuing to Sunday 15th. This year it is being combined with The London Boat Show, The London Bike Show, The Active Travel Show and a special feature, Careers In The Outdoors

What's Happening?

There is lots going on as usual with hundreds of exhibitors, speakers and bargains to be had, one feature that caught my eye was the Photography Village especially the speakers, landscape photographers: Colin Prior, Joe Cornish, Charlie Waite and Tom Mackie.

But what is happening at the show's Climbing Village? In 2012 it is bigger than ever.

DMM will be there as usual. We asked Chris Rowlands at DMM what they will be doing this year?

We will be an integral part of the Climbing Village, having spent a lot of time with Steve Mayers (Beacon Climbing) organising as many things as possible for the show goers to enjoy.

DMM Inspection ... can you do it?

There will be Masterclasses with DMM Sponsored climbers Libby Peter and Lucy Creamer. These will be run over the four days of the show; places are limited but pre-bookable on our website. More details and to book go to www.dmmclimbing.com

Ice wall. The ever popular Ice Wall is back where anybody can have a go at ice climbing using the very latest ice climbing equipment on a wall supplied by Beacon Climbing.

There will also be poster signings and the chance to meet and chat with DMM Sponsored climbers on our stand.

Technical Demonstrations. See if you can assemble a carabiner under the watchful eye of one of our DMM Assembly staff; or try your hand at being a DMM Quality Inspector and pick out the carabiners which don't make the grade!

Carabiner Testing. Watch carabiners being tested to destruction on our portable tensile tester. Bring your old gear if you like for us to test and see how strong it really is !

Talk to our expert team about design, prototyping, and manufacturing our gear. Make suggestions about what we should or could be making!

Finally you will be able to get expert advice prior to purchasing gear from our retail store. Ask our staff about harness fitting.

Wild Country

The UK's other great gear manufacturer Wild Country will also be present and you can fondle their gear and ask questions to the Wild Country team....or perhaps that is the other way around? I'll check.

Beacon Climbing

As Chris described Steve Mayers and the Beacon crew (www.beaconclimbing.com) will be there with various walls, including their CrazyClimb and Tommy the Elephant just for the youngsters.

Martin will be on the careers stage talking about "Career or Careering" in the outdoors! The BMG will also be holding some crevasse rescue sessions.

Representatives from both (AMI and NICAS will be there. NICAS is the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme, and they will both be running climbing workshops on the Beacon Walls and answering any questions you have about AMI and NICAS.

AMI/DMM Skills Sessions

DMM are delighted to once again host free Workshops run by the AMI. These workshops will be run by fully qualified Mountain Instructors and members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI). The AMI is the representative body for all professionally qualified Mountain Instructors in the UK and Ireland. The workshops will cover: Perfect Anchors, Knot Wizardry, and Trusting Anchors.
