The sixth round of the Bouldering World Cup hits Sheffield this weekend. The British Team are currently ranked in 4th place in the team rankings and are hoping for good results on home turf.

Nick Clement, British bouldering team manager reported on the team's preparations:

"The British Bouldering Team had their final team training session on the Cliffhanger Competition Wall on Tuesday the 29th June. The session comprised of a World Cup standard semi-final set of 4 boulder problems, with Team members having 5 minutes to complete a problem followed by 5 minutes rest. The training session was filmed by BBC Look North and was shown on their evening news on Wednesday."

Last week UKC, Alpkit and Cliffhanger ran a competition. One of the prizes was to join the British Bouldering Team for a training session. Rachel Gibson won that prize and joined the team for their final World Cup preparations in Sheffield:

"Rachel watched the Team train and then at the end of the session asked a variety of questions including advice on training. The Team presented Rachel with a signed British Bouldering Team competition vest." explained Nick Clement.

“Stew Watson is lying in 6th place and Dave Barrans in 10th...”

The competition this weekend is set to be a tense and gripping affair. Graeme Alderson of the Climbing Works bouldering wall in Sheffield gives us the low down:

"One of the main attractions all season long has been the battle between reigning Champion Kilian Fischhuber and the wonder-kid Adam Ondra. Kilian has been edging it with 2 victories so far compared to Adam's 1 win. If Kilian wins in Sheffield then he is the Champion, but he's not had it all his own way, with wins from Dimitry Sharafutdninov from Russia and Daniel Woods from USA in the other two rounds so far.

British interest is high as we currently have 2 top ten ranked climbers. Stew Watson is lying in 6th place and Dave Barrans in 10th. The Brits have traditionally done pretty well on home soil in international events.

The women's title is still wide open with 3 climbers still in contention. Anna Stohr is in the lead from Akiyo Noguchi but Chloe Graftiaux is also in a good position once the lowest score is dropped."

The qualification round will take place on Saturday with the semi-finals and finals both on the Sunday. The competition isn't the only thing going on in Millhouses park however, as organiser Matt Heason explained:

"The competition will take place at Cliffhanger, the UK's biggest outdoor event. It's a fiver to get in, but once you're in, virtually everything is free, from watching the world cup to scuba diving, slacklining, mountain boarding and Frisbee golf (to name but a few of the activities on offer). If you need somewhere to stay then check out the Big Shake Out, organised by Alpkit, with live music, films, a beer tent, BBQ and camping. With a decent forecast it's looking like a sensible place to be for the weekend."

If you can't make it to the event there will be a live video stream of the competition here: Cliffhanger Website

Just curious but who's actually in the british bouldering team, and is it based on the results last weekend? I can't see a listing on the BMC website.
