Does Anyone Read Books Anymore?

© UKC News

This year's Kendal Mountain Festival sees a great celebration of mountain writing with a series of events that will make the festival the spiritual home of climbing and mountain writing. If you love books, reading or literature (aren't they all the same thing?) the get yourself along to one of these shows. They all promise an intimate insight into some of the most exciting books around today. Indeed, three of the books featured are shortlisted for this year's Boardman-Tasker Prize; as well as one work-in-progress will surely be a favourite when it appears.

The format for the shows is simple. Authors will talk about their experiences and read from their books. After there will be on-stage interviews between the authors and a Michael Parkinson-style interviewer, delving into the motivations and ideas of the authors. It will then be thrown open to questions from the audience.

If you've ever wondered about the process of writing a book then these shows will prove fascinating. If you want to see a side of those involved that you seldom get to see in a more conventional lecture then this is where you will see it. The shows will be interesting, revealing and personal, and above all, promise to be a lot of fun.

The main literature events on Friday 20th, straight after the announcement of the Boardman-Tasker, and continue through the weekend.

As the subtitle is "A Life in Mountain Rescue" I think it's safe to assume it's not the same one.
