First, the Boardman Tasker Prize for mountain literature will be awarded. The prize of £2,000 commemorates the lives of Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker and is given to the author or co-authors of an original work which has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature. Last years top prize was shared by Andy Cave with Learning to Breathe and Jim Perrin's The Villain: the Life of Don Whillans.
This years short list includes Arlene Blum with Breaking Trail: A Climbing Life, Jimmy Cruickshank's High Endeavours: The Life and Legend of Robin Smith, Charles Lind's book An Afterclap of Fate: Mallory on Everest and Mr. Perrin is shortlisted again with The Climbing Essays and Graham Wilson's A Rope of Writers: a look at mountaineering literature in Britain.
