Extreme Sports Makeover For Ex-Coal Mine

Imagine an Olympic standard white water canoe slalom course, the world's largest climbing wall, the first indoor surfing centre in this country, a sky diving centre, the UK's first artificial canyon, the world's largest ice climbing wall, a caving system, high ropes course and the countries longest zip slide all sited on an 327 acre ex-coalfield site adjoining the Rother Valley Country Park in South Yorkshire.

Extreme sports are big business and this project entitled Venture Xtreme is part of the YES! Project being managed by development company and property consultancy Oak Holdings plc, in association with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

The project also includes a major indoor entertainment facilities, four-star resort spa and conference hotel, exhibition centre and golf range, along with restaurants, bars, cafes and retailing.

XTREEEEEEEM. Sounds like it mixes the worst shopping mall from hell aspects of Xscape with an even bigger white elephant (that the right phrase?) potential than Ratho. Potentially an inspiring idea in theory but is it really going to be run in the spirit of adventure activities and is it really going to be successful??

I've not read the links properly but would just like to know if anyone knows if this has got the go ahead, has got through planning etc... or whether it's just at speculation stage (although I guess it would be weird to be telling the press about it if it wasn't already reasonably secure).
