© Rhys Jones
The bodies of seven climbers have been recovered from near the summit of Mount Elbrus (5642m) in the Caucasus Range, Russia. They were part of a Russian and Ukranian group that were attempting the Seven Summit peak to celebrate Victory Day, the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. Temperatures near the summit were as low as -50 C. The bodies of 4 more climbers are been searched for by Elbrus rescue. Whilst technically easy to climb, Elbrus is challenging because of its altitude and often severe weather conditions.
