Jagged Globe Expedition Successful on Everest

Kenton Cool (UK) and Clive Jones (NZ) summited Everest at on Saturday 15th May. Since then other sites are reporting as many as 113 successful summit ticks in an exceptional weather window over the weekend. This includes the 14th ascent of the mountain by Appu Sherpa from Nepal. Currently, no teams have summited from the North.

Kenton and Clive were the first to the top in the 2004 season, along with Sherpas Pema Tshiring Sherpa and Pema Nurbu Sherpa, who opened the route above the Hilary Step. Kenton is currently in Camp 2 and planning to climb to the top again, with another Jagged Globe team member, Nick Brook (UK). Clive Jones is relaxing back in base camp, having descended from Camp 2 yesterday.

This is Jagged Globe's 8th expedition to the mountain, being the first British company to offer a commercial Everest expedition in 1993. On all 7 expeditions via the South Col route, team members have reached the top.

...of this season

Just read some of the reports, I'm amazed to see there's 70-80 people on the south col at the moment waiting for a summit push. This sounds bizarre, is there usually that many up there awaiting a weather window like this? Arrogant guides on the Bosses ridge is one thing, but a queue up there could turn out bad. Hopefully everyone will get down OK tomorrow. Steve.

I think with so many climbers on the North Side as well, they are going to put a second ladder on the 2nd Step. Hopefully by 2006 they will have an escalator installed, especially if this bl*ody leg of mine never heals.
