Patrick Berhault dies in the Alps

Patrick Berhault, the legendary French Alpinist, has died while trying to complete his 82 day trip to climb every 4000m peak in the Alps with his companion Philippe Magin.
The following was reported on the French web site Kairn.com -

At 11:30am on Wednesday 28 April, Patrick Berhault and Phillippe Magnin were making progress towards the summit of Dom (4545m) when Patrick fell off the slopes above Saas Fee. The climbers were moving independently and the conditions were bad so Philippe wasn't initially aware of the fall. When he realised that Patrick had disappeared he made his way to the Mischabeljoch bivouac to get help. A helicopter search was mounted but the weather was too bad. A second search on Thursday located Patrick's body.

When I first started getting interested in the hills, the exploits of Berhault, Profit, JM Boivin etc. were a total inspiration. I could never hope to emulate them, but the panache they did stuff with was amazing. What a pisser.
