BMC International Winter Meet cancelled

The BMC has had to cancel the International Winter Meet that was to be held at Glenmore Lodge in February 2003. The meet, which in 2001, attracted 48 climbers from 20 different countries and was hosted by 50 British climbers, was considered by many to be one of the most highly valued and important events within world climbing. The cancellation is part of a number of cost saving measures designed to get the BMC out of its current cash crisis. A spokesperson from the BMC said:

"The International Meet is seen as a very important event in the BMC calender as it does a huge amount towards improving international relations...It is hoped that by cancelling this year's event (and the considerable subsequent saving), along with other cost saving measures being implemented, that the BMC will be back in a position to resume running the event again as normal next year. "
