Rushup Edge - Away from the Crowds WalkingMountain biking

Going to Mam Tor parking on a busy bank holiday can hardly be described as 'away from the crowds'. However, so focused are people on the Mam Tor prize, that very few look west towards the magnificent Rushup Edge. This circuit starts busy but you break away almost immediately and then make an 8km loop back via Barber Booth and up the hillside to Mam Nick with only a few other walkers for company. It can easily be reversed, which would give a steep initial descent then more gradual height gain back up onto the edge.

SK0991882923 At a junction pick up a bridleway leading north towards Kinder. A short distance down here you can continue over a good path towards Kinder and descend Jacob's Ladder for a much longer circuit.

SK1041983882 The track here has been deeply cut by water erosion but the bank on the left has a pleasant walking path on it to keep you up out of the gravel track. Head left onto a footpath at a junction and gate.

5
SK1117184716 A short section of road leads to Barber Booth. Cross here for another slightly underused path.

6
SK1237884593 After crossing a few fields you reach a short road. Keep sharp right here and pick up the path above the road. This leads steeply up towards the main Mam Nick road.

7
SK1232383795 Cross the road directly and follow the field edge up to Mam Nick. Drop down the other side for the first busy section since you left the parking.
