Coombs Dale, Calver - Family Walk Walking

A short little walk from Calver, that offers some easily-earned and lovely views back towards Froggatt and Curbar edges.
This is a quick and easy walk ideal for a family when time or motivation is short. After an unspectacular start up Coombs Dale, the walk takes you gently up and then descends down a ridge back towards Calver with spectacular views. At the end of the walk you pass the Claver Sough Garden Centre which may be of interest to some family members. Next door is the sweet shop which will probably be an attraction for the others.

Detailed description

1
SK2357875059 From the parking on the short connecting road by the traffic lights, head up the main A623 towards Stoney. Take care crossing this one as you approach the playing fields.

2
SK2287274833 The wide track leads past one gate up Coombs Dale. Just in case you were tempted to take a dip in the inviting pools on the track up Coombs Dale, someone has thoughtly placed some signs to discourage you.

3
SK2232174374 After about 1.5km the track curves to the right and there is a path on left over a muddy section with some wooden sleepers. Follow this into and continue up the edge of the tress. There is a stile on the right which you can cross to get out of the tress, or stay on the left since both paths go to the same point.

4
SK2267073842 The views start to appear as you reach the top of this short side valley and you reach a junction with another path. Turn sharp left here and cross the fields.

5
SK2312074567 This path leads to a small track between two walls which descends down a ridge back towards Calver. This is the best bit of the walk with some great views (photo at the top).

6
SK2367974826 Wind your way back through the houses to pop out on the main road near the garden centre and sweet shop.
