Detailed description

1
SK2340875961 A great place to start this walk is on the partially-closed road leading up from Grindleford. There is always space at the point where the closed road is marked on a corner. Head up the path from here.

2
SK2318876317 The path leads through into a fascinating MTB bike area with corners, ramps and some impressive jumps in the trees.

3
SK2285376350 Follow the road down the hill with good views towards Goddards Quarry. You pass the Riley Grave - the first of the slightly morbid and tragic attractions of the Eyam circuit.

4
SK2207876407 In the village are cafes and the Miner's Arms for refreshments plus plenty of other little plague-related plaques. Find a left turn up a road with a path signed to Stoney Middleton.

5
SK2257275880 The path drops down between fields towards the Boundary Stone where the tragic stories get cranked up to a whole new level with two heartbreakers about 'Two Lovers' and the famous 'Lovers Leap' after which the Stoney cafe was named. As with the other stories, there is no Hollywood ending to either of these.

6
SK2317875526 Stoney Middleton village is much more picturesque than you might expect if you have only driven through it. A lovely church, great pub and the Roman Baths notable for not being remotely Roman.

7
SK2328475541 The track goes straight up the hill here giving a direct route back to the parking. A nice and quiet extension though is to turn right onto a new path and then keep left uphill towards a farm.

8
SK2370475652 This gives some great views towards Froggatt before you head back left to the track leading up to the start.
