Hill features

Crook Hill lies in a lofty position above Ladybower reservoir, between it's main body of water and left tributary which runs alongside the A57 Snake Pass. Its Summit forms two distinct hilltops, North and the South which is also known as Ladycrook Hill. These are reminiscent of hilltop forts and are home to a fine selection of scenic bouldering and the odd route. It's exposure means it's open to all weathers and facing South West the crags catch the afternoon and evening sun. It's Kinder grit up here which requires the odd brush, but provides some great sculputed holds. The landings are generally good and the views are absolutely glorious.

Approach notes

The best approach is via the path towards Crookhill Farm. The main path to the farm starts just by Ashopton Viaduct on the Derwent valley road heading up the well signposted fields. Parking for this is on the A57 layby just before the Viaduct opposite Ashopton Mill. A second option is down the Derwent valley road after parking just past the bus turn-around in the layby, which is known as Fearfall wood. Then walk back along the road to the driveway to the farm up the hill on your right. There is also the Severn Trent Water Hetherdene car park by the dam wall and then walk over the viaducts. If heading from Manchester there is parking on the A57 and then head up via a footpath through Grimbocar wood to the northwest of the hill, which brings you to a CROW access point where the North Hill can be spotted easily.
