Restricted Access

No access problems. The area is part of the Eastern Edges SSSI designated for its assemblage of breeding birds - please make sure dogs are under control to protect birds and sheep: the grazier has reported losses.

Seasonal Restrictions

Reason: Nesting Birds

Ring ouzel nest sites change quickly and frequently as they often have several broods each year with different nest sites for each brood. On site signage will be up around any of the nest sites where climbing may impact on the birds and this is always up to date and accurate.

βeta: Despite all of the linked videos being of taller people, this is also a nice problem for us short arses -with a high right foot instead of a lurch.

βeta: Do not climb if the bloc is wet or seeping. Due to the nature of the landscape this problem tends to seep out of the holds in the break for days after heavy rain. Do not try to dry the holds with chalk. Come Back another day when it is dry. There are faster drying problems of a similar quality and grade in the valley, instead of climbing this when wet it would be better to climb elsewhere. The problem has already suffered from erosion this year as part of the low break has already broken leaving a jug on the left hand side. Do not add to further erosion and spoil it for future climbers just so you can tick your log book.

βeta: Please don’t climb this when it’s wet or seeping. It is notoriously always wet and if you climb on it when it’s wet you’re adding to the erosion and ruining it for the next person. Just wait until it’s dry, the rocks not going anywhere. Far too many logbook entries on here of people saying they’ve climbed it when it’s soaked.

βeta: Is a sit start! Why so many videos of people starting from a crouched possition using the 2nd hold. Get your bum on the floor (or a pad if you must/can't reach) from the first slot and do it properly moving upto the 2nd hold!
