Hill features

Visible from much of the Uig coastline, these prominent slabs lie on Griomabhal, the southernmost of the western chain of hills, and are set in a splendid position overlooking the dark waters of the Dubh Loch at the head of Gleann Tealasdail. The rock is a mix of gneiss and quartz-like pegmatite giving excellent slab climbing on clean sound rock which leads to an abrupt top-out on the summit of Griomabhal.

The nature of the rock means that it is possible to climb almost anywhere. The cliff is slow to dry after the winter but thereafter it dries fairly quickly after rain.

Approach notes

Follow the B8011 past the turn off signed to Mangurstadh and go through Islivig then Breanish to reach the end of the road at a slipway in the bay of Camas Mol Linnis. Head south to a boulder beach, then go uphill and cross a fence beside a burn. Climb uphill and go rightwards through a gap between cairned knolls, then continue rising across a second burn. A third burn is reached in the upper reaches of Gleann Tealasdail and followed to the Dubh Loch. Steep grass leads to the foot of the climbs.

Route Cards

Sorry, There are no Route Cards associated with this hill
We found the crag slow to dry after rain (summer), still lots of weeps two days after a day's rain. Wet black lichen was like ice, and unfortunately rendered the climbs impossible (for us!). Couldn't tell the crag was seeping until nearly upon it.
