L'Ardève is a great viewpoint above the Rhone valley, thanks to its steep, 700m high southwest face (which does not appear to be climbed, however there is a crag in the forest on the north side).
The hike up the northeast ridge has an exposed rising-traverse on rock equipped with a hefty hand rail which is absolutely required, and thereafter a very steep earthen path equipped with exposed tree routes (and trees) which may well prove to be a requirement too, and especially so after rain. Better to do it in dry conditions.
The walk can be approached from Ovronnaz or, better, Mayens-de-Chamson, where public parking on the main road is difficult / impossible to find: on the road heading south off the main road from Les Esserts pt.1309m (Chemin de la chappelle) there is a space for a few cars on the right, a couple of hundred meters down. Follow this road to the end to the start of the path in the forest.
