Hill features

Silberen, 2318m, is a a great viewpoint to the surrounding mountains and a popular walking peak with waymarked trails approaching the summit from the east, south and west. While being low-angled and without technical difficulty, barring the odd easy scrambly step, the sometimes complex Karrenfeld (limestone pavement) landscape has justified the routes being graded as T3 in the SAC Wanderskala (demanding mountain walk).

The shortest route is from the Pragel Pass 1548m to the west, while the route from the east can be first approached from the north at Gampel 1134m (with parking or Postbus at Vorderrichisau along the road to the east). This route can also accessed from the east at Käsern near pt.1281m, but the 4km long road there from the end of the Klöntalersee is subject to a Fahrverbot and not served by the bus. Accommodation and Alpen Taxi service offered at www.kaesernalp.ch. The route from the south is optimal for those seeking kms in the legs. There is a further route from the north described in the 2004 SAC guidebook, also graded T3 but not waymarked. This is said to depart the trail at Alpeli and is said to proceed via Teuf Boden to the eastern end of Ochsenstrich, before joining the route from the west.
