Normal approach to Yalung Ri basecamp is from Na village (Rolwaling valley) heading up and turning off right at a prominent ‘tee-pee’ like monument on the valley path. Head up the (gradually more distinct) path, a basecamp can be established by a long, hut-like building above a wide, shallow, ‘delta-like’ watercourse.
Yalung Ri is then approached by heading directly uphill and picking up the cairns that lead down through a boulder field then rising up, before traversing to a saddle on a ridge.
The ridge is then followed up, then down through a brief dip, before joining a now-rightwards leading ridge. Watch carefully for cairns leading a slightly falling traverse left and follow these to the base of the glacier, past some shed-like rocks.
The glacier can be gained in the middle, up relatively steep (front points) ice, or by going around the unstable (and barely less steep) rock to the right.
