The Grand Cayre is the prominent conical peak above the Madone de Fenestre. It dominates the Petit Cayre de la Madone. The peak has three ridges, South-southwest, Northwest and the East which is the descent. It also has a Southwest face and a South buttress.
The Petit Cayre (2413m) is clearly visible from the refuge La Madone de Fenestre. There are multipitch routes of around 180m up several faces of the Petit Cayre, with the easiest classic line being the Arête Sud (or Pilier Sud).
A path leads easily from the Madone de Fenestre hamlet to the foot of the western side of the peak by following the path waymarked GR52 (S).
