Lyngefjellet forms one of two high points situated on the northern most end of Hopen island. With an altitude of 250m it is by no means high, but the approach to the summit is steep and dangerous given the nature of geology here.
Whilst a little out of the way, the mountain is a popular excursion location for oil geologists specialising in the Barents Sea and more recently there has been interest from botanists who rarely have the opportunity to venture outside of zone 10.
On clear days it is also possible to see the southeast coast of Edgeøya.
