Crag features

Rhinog Fawr South Faces is a collective name for a large number of compact, tiered crags dotted around on the lower south face of Rhinog Fawr within the National Nature Reserve, with lots of established climbing, esoteric bouldering and stacks of new routing potential.

Falcon Crack is located on a small outcrop called Carreg y Gwalch, much further up the hillside in comparison to the other routes.

This area is not featured in the current guide (Meirionnydd 2002), as it's been subsequently developed, but it'll be definitively covered in the new Welsh Grit guide which is currently in development. Both the rock and the setting (if visiting on a sunny day) are superb. This is get-away-from-it-all Rhinogydd outcrop climbing par excellence.

Approach notes

Park at the Cwm Nantcol roadhead near Maes Y Garnedd farm (£2 parking fee to be paid at the farm). Follow the Bwlch Drws Ardudwy path and turn off left and determinedly bushwhack through molinia bogs, heather, bilberries and bracken to reach the crags - of which there are a great many!
