Bouldering at Wyastone © monsteratt

Crag features

An outcrop of the Forest of Dean's Sandstone, The Wyastone is an area for bouldering/soloing with most routes under 6m high.

The unusual Sandstone conglomerate is, for the most, full of pebbles ranging from the tiny to hen egg sized.

It's within a lovely woods and most routes enjoy large amounts of leaves at their base.

Approach notes

The woods within which the outcrop is located are managed by the Woodland Trust. Park outside the woods and it's then a 10 minute walk in.

Problems are loose and unpredictable at times but all adds to the experience.

Crazy place. Idealic setting but mad climbing. The place is just for soloing - all of the grades are for prior-top-roped solo ascents and the landings are usually deep, soft, leaves. Unfortunately the rock is the most friable known to man. Damn.
