Crag features

A compact quarry with routes in the low to mid grades. The sandstone is clean and very good quality. The quarry has an open aspect and dries quickly however the rock suffers some seepage and doesn't get the sun until late in the day. 

Worth packing gardening gloves and a pair of secateurs as the brambles quickly reclaim this rarely climbed crag. But your reward for a little gardening is having a peaceful wooded location all to yourself. 

Approach notes

The quarry is located above the village of Six Bells, directly overlooking the Six Bells Miners Memorial. Approaching from Newport, follow the Axxx to the roundabout at Aberbeeg. Taking the third exit, following the signs to Six Bells. In the village of Six Bells one passes the Six Bells Hotel. Immediately opposite the pub Cemetery Road rises towards the village of Brynithel (brown road sign with church symbol). Follow this road for a few hundered meters where a layby is located on the left. Park here and follow the road back down about 50m to a rusty gate and rising track. The track leads directly into the quarry.

Arête area cleaned up, Blue Orgy and Smurfette’s Night Off cleaned. I’ve started a project in the crack to the left of Blue Orgy, cleaned and climbed but not bolted

Cleared the remaining brambles on the left and right walls so the whole crag is now accessible. Also took away the haunted duvet, the shredded tarpaulin and another 2 bags of litter. Routes just need minimal cleaning now so take gardening gloves and a brush.

I cleared the brambles on the Arete Area a couple of weeks ago but the Left and Right Hand Walls still need gardening. I also took away a couple of carrier bags of litter but couldn't get everything. Need 3 black bin bags to take away a couple of tarpaulins and an old duvet, then the crag will be pristine again.

The two 6a at the right end of the left side wall are lost to moss.

A couple of weeks ago I cleared the bramble away from the bottom of the left hand routes. Now much easier to climb.

Nice easy crag. A bit of loose rock and a lot of rubbish around though. Check the South Wales Wiki for the topo and the routes. There is a missing section here: Arete Area. Malfor is after Dancing Spleen, not at the end of the crag.
