Crag features

As you've driven down the A6105 out of Glossop, or along the Woodhead Pass you'll have glanced up at this jumble of stones, mentally marking it down as a possible summer excursion. The outlook from the crag overlooking the Longdendale Valley is stunning.

There are two distinct areas on the moor edge, with the lovely Rollick Tower leaning into the moor lower down and then a quarried section below that, with some minor rocks at right angles to that off to the west.

This collection of north and west-facing crags are a definite summer and early autumn venue. Some routes will certainly need to be cleaned prior to an ascent, and the western end of the crag can stay damp a few days longer than the rest of the crag as it has a slight easterly aspect to it.

Approach notes

Park at the Peak District National Park car park opposite the Torside Sailing Club and make your way onto the Longdendale Trail. Turn left and, then follow the sign for Wildboarclough. The path is fairly obvious, passing through a gorgeous and tranquil forest of stunted oak, to emerge near a fence and with a much better view of the rocks. Go over the stile, then cross the clough a few hundred metres higher, making a beeline for the right-hand end of the crag.

Approach time: 45 mins
