The best multi-pitch sport route in the world? 'Fiesta de los biceps' (F7a), Riglos © ali k
The giant conglomerate towers found at Los Mallos de Riglos offer some of the best multi-pitch climbing in Spain and are deservedly popular. The conglomerate blocks are set into a hard sandstone giving a unique climbing medium. Steep pumpy routes on large jugs predominate. Most of the newer and more popular routes found at Riglos are bolt protected. The older 'vias clasicas' requre a rack although there is usually some situ gear and often a bit of aid. Most of these routes hardly get done at all although some of them have been 'modernised' by groups such as 'Los Diaples' and are becoming popular.
The different climbing sectors are: El Fire, El Circo de Verano (The Summer Cirque), El Pisón (The Step), El Puro (The Cigar), El Macizo de Pisón, Los Volaos, El Cuchillo (The Knife), El Melchor Frechín, La Visera (The Visor), los Mallos Pequeños y los Boulders de Riglos.
From Zaragoza take the A23 motorway to Huesca. From here continue along the A132 towards Pamplona. About 8 km after Ayerbe take a right turn sign posted Los Mallos de Riglos. The towers can easily be seen from the village. From Barcelona take the A2 to Lerida/LLeida then A 22 ( this motorway isn't quite finished yet1, so use N240) to Huesca then as from Zaragoza.
Some routes are protected when the vultures nest on them. This is quite unusual as the main nesting area is seperate from thee climbs.
