βeta: 1st route in the Alps. Epic. Abbed from Flammes des Pierres and bivvied at base of route. Bivvied again above the long peg crack. In too deep. Not above our heads but definitely swallowing water!

βeta: Approached from Flammes de Pierre. Very loose rock on abseil descent into couloir - two British climbers killed on this descent shortly before us. Bivouacked on minute seam in middle or Red Walls. Long, tiring descent; couldn't find way across Mer de Glace in dark, so had a second bivvy on the glacier
