Wisely upgraded from the old Cicerone guide, Knitting Haws provides a very decent scramble. The rock can be very slippery in the wet and socks over footwear to give grip are advisable. Approach Route from upper pasture of Hollow Farm campsite. Route begins on the obvious ridge (the one with three or four trees on), pick a route up with interest. Rock rib on right is climbed to terrace below steep rock band. Walk/Traverse left above a holly and reach another holly. A tricky move up behind this holly brings you onto a leftwards ramp (fairly exposed). Up a corner to the top. Over some rocky hummocks picking fun lines. Buttress rises in juniper covered rocks with three spurs and a clean nose on right. Climb front of nose on good holds, then work a scratchy way up the furthest right of the three spurs (route now almost entirely consumed by Juniper). At the Major steep wall head round right of the big holly and up an obvious short gully left, following the worn path above. Climb the next major band left of the Rowan tree bearing right then left and work an entertaining way to the summit.
