Restricted Access

Ownership of the combe is divided between Avon Wildlife Trust (who own the eastern section) and the charitable trust Groundworks South (who own the western section where the majority of the crags are located). The Landowner does not allow climbing on the crags. If climbers do decide to visit and are asked to leave by Groundworks staff, they should do so politely and as quickly as is safely possible.

Be aware that there are frequently loose blocks at the top of the smaller buttresses - a cautious approach is advised. As with any crag, climbing here is an activity with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.

Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 15 February to 15 May

Reason: Nesting Birds

Ravens are nesting on Eagle Rock - the buttress should be avoided until the signs are removed.

Rockfax Description
A classic pumper. Start at a crack 2m right of Smaug the Dragon. Climb the crack to a break under steep ground. Step left to below a thread in a crack and climb the steep crack strenuously to a ledge. Above on the right is an undercut crack, climb up past this via some powerful pulls to reach the top. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
The steep crack in the bulges just left of the large roofs. Climb an easy crack to a break, move left to a position below the bulging crack. Climb the strenuous crack to a rest just left of the roofs. Make a hard move to enter a hanging corner on the right and finish at a tree above.

βeta: Top roped solo. After a few tries I have the beta to attempt a full. Its all there. The top section is something else - exciting in some respects however. Certainly need to think about feet. I found a shoulder move worked to power up. Part of me was more thinking what on earth was that route to the right of this.... absolutely nails!
