Crag features
Baravore Valley is also known as Fraughan Rock Glen or the Three Valleys. The setting is wild and impressive with great views as you ascend. The crag can be cold as it is 250m higher than Glendalough. Unstable or loose blocks are possible due to the thin serrated nature of the ridge. Descent in rock boots is not advised and an abseil chain has been provided at the top of great gully ( 2x 50m ropes will get you back to the start of the climbs). Alternatively walk off via the head of the glen near the watercourse.
Approach notes
Cross the ford in the valley if possible and park outside the Youth Hostel. Head up the forest track heading left at the old mine building. The crag can be seen after about twenty minutes waking above a forest on the right, you should be able to make out the great gully. After a slight descent head off through the wood following any vague path. It is quite steep in places and quite hard going but worth the effort. It should take about an hour to get to the bottom of the climbs.
