Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 15 February to 31 May

Reason: Nesting Birds

2023 26th February update: The Ravens do not appear to be using the existing nest in Gardoms Unconquerable - however one more check will be made in case they are late starting, so please be observant and report any sightings if you are in the area.

In recent years a Tawny Owl has nested in the Layback Crack/Flake Crack.area - it is not known if they are present in 2023 but please keep your eyes and ears out if climbing in this area.

Rockfax Description
Climb the groove that bounds the right-hand side of the buttress and the crack on the right to a good ledge. Move up and left to the crest of a huge flake and step onto a polished lump, before climbing the wall rightwards to the final crack. Excellent stuff. © Rockfax

βeta: HS until it the last (steep) wall, where the route is less clear and more comitting. Mild VS? The top wall seems harder than Apple Arete ("VS 4b") but it might be easy for the fit/strong.

βeta: Don't agree with that. Its very high in the grade and probably deserves VS. If you did Cider Apple, the HS next to Apple Arete (although thats probably overgraded) and then tried this expecting similar difficulty, you'd be in for a big shock.
