Dyffryn Crag,Neath © Carpe Diem

Crag features

A quiet crag set high above the Neath valley that has a number of short climbs on generally good rock. The routes are almost exclusively fingery and technical, and what they lack in length, they make up for in intensity. This is a great place to brush up on technique and build up finger strength.

Do not park or drive on the forest track by or passing the farm. Park behind the church in the carpark by the large gates and walk 30mins up the track.

Approach notes

See the BMC RAD for access information

Restricted Access

The site owners (The Woodland Trust) are very concerned regarding thier potential liability and car parking at this site. They wish to state that they do not give give any express permisson for climbing at this site, and all climbing is at the individual's own risk. No equipment such as hanging ropes or quick draws are to be left insitu. In the event of forestry works being carried out, all public acces to the woods would be temporarily restricted for safety reasons.

Parking Issues summer 2017 - please park sensibly according to the information in the South Wales Climbing Wiki and Climbers Club guide description NOT per the Rockfax map. Doing so is likely to cause issues with locals going forward. Do NOT park in front of the houses on the approach track. The local residents and farmers have had problems with climbers cars blocking their parking spaces.

Climbed here the last 2 days, no one else there. Really hot and sunny, all routes looked dry. all the routes on the far right are totally inaccessible due to nettles and brambles. It looks like a lot of work to beat a path. A long, sweaty walk up the hill. Parking is quite limited at the recommended woods bay, maybe 4 spaces. On the second day we parked in the Dyffryn Inn Pub and rode our bikes via the foot path from the pub, a slow push up but a fun descent back to the pub at the end of the day. No midges, but did get one mosquito bite just before we left so take long trousers for the evening.

brill little venue, nicely settled in the woods with a good view of the bay from the tops of the walls. Beautiful in the sun, well worth an afternoon climb, beware midges near sundown!
