Great Crack is indeed great © highaltitudebarista

Crag features

There are a lot of abandoned quarries around Matlock and most of them are pretty grotty. Duke's Quarry is one of these though it does have a couple of outstanding lines - Great Crack in particular is worth a look after a dry spell. It is well sheltered from any bad weather.

Approach notes

Follow the A6 to a bridge over the river and turn off by the Derwent Hotel towards Crich. After 100m turn left along a minor road to Robin Hood/Holloway. After approx 400m pull onto a muddy parking area on the left where a track leaves the minor road. Cross the road and head up the diagonally trending footpath into the quarry.

No Access Issues

The quarry is owned by the Chatsworth Estate and managed by the Crich Carr Community Group for its wildlife interests. The crag has some classic routes but is overgrown and can remain damp for much of the year.

why is dukes quarry shown on ukc map east of ashbourne?and not at whatstandwell

Wow. Visited this at the weekend - like finding another millstone that will sadly never get used!
