Crag features

A great single pitch crag with routes up to 30m in length and stunning views down the Llanberis Pass.

The rock is excellent (Rhyolite). Facing North West it is a shady crag receiving only the evening sun, but can be great on a hot day or after work. Being high in the pass it can be windy, especially belaying on top..

Popular mainly for the harder lines, there is a good collection of shorter amenable routes that have recently (2023) been starred and are well worth seeking out.

Clogwyn Gafr translates as Goat Cliff.

Approach notes

Best approached from Pen y Pass. Currently parking here requires pre-booking and is expensive! Bus recommended.

From Pen Y Pass car park head along the PYG track for around 1.2km until just before a long section of steps where the path steepens. From this point, there is a subtle path dropping down to the crag in a Northerly direction through a meadow. Alternatively leave the PYG track at around 1km (250m after the stream) to contour across to the crag (can be boggy). It is possible to walk up the road from the Cromlech boulders till past Dinas Bach, and up the boggy hillside, but not recommended.

OS Grid Reference: SH 635 555

Marked as Craig Fach on the OS 1:25k map.

Approach in the guide not that helpful; follow the PYG track through the boulders and then cut right across the meadow just below where the path hits the steep rocky steps.
