Two areas are located in Buckfastleigh:
River Dart Rocks - a low wall which culminates in a vicious stack of overhangs at the hotel end of the path. Great venue for top-roping, potential for low-level traversing.
Bulleycleaves Quarry - the huge quarry packed with enticing-looking rock. Three routes were climbed here in 1985 but a leading gas supplier now uses it to store large quantities of pressurised gas.
River Dart Rocks is located at Dart Bridge immediately southeast of the Abbey Inn. Pull off the road into a gravel parking bay above the river. Walk 25m in the opposite direction from the pub. Hop over a metal rail and scramble down to the river bank. Head back upriver to the crag, which is right below the parking bay.
Bulleycleaves Quarry is located adjacent to Dart Bridge. Feel free to wander up to the manager's office and make a speculative enquiry, just be sure to put your cigarette out beforehand.
There are no comments from visitors to this crag. |
