Bradwell Dale Quarry © Rockfax

Crag features

Two limestone crags either side of the B6049 just south of Bradwell. Developed with a small set of sport routes to add to some older trad routes. The faces are hidden from the road on the west side but visible on the east side.

Approach notes

Do not park on the road in the dale since this will cause an obstruction. Instead park on the main road or side roads in the village and walk up the dale. The sport routes are on the hidden west side. Dont take the vague path up through the woods as this is on a neighbours land who does not welcome climbers.  Instead walk up the road and after some 200m an overgrown metal gate will be visible on the right hand side of the road. To the side of this is a path that leads into the quarry. Alternately walk another 50m or so up the road and on the opposite side of the road from a 50mph repeater sign a ramp with a path runs up and into the quarry.   .

The owner of Bradwell Parish Quarry (on the western side of the road) has requested that people climbing in quarry don't create a mess when removing loose rock and vegetation to garden routes and please don't cut down any trees, however small. He would also like climbers to contact (text is fine) 07531001990 before climbing there so he knows who's about. Permission is seldom, if ever, refused. Updates on new routes will also be welcomed.

Please follow the access advice detailed below.

---- There are new signs up saying private no access. ---  However, these are on the neighbours land and do not apply to the access to Bradwell Parish Quarry.

No Access Issues

A few different landowners own parts of the quarried rock in Bradwell Dale and as a result the access situation for each area differs:

Morton Quarry, Upper Tier: access not permitted by the landowners

Bradwell Parish Quarry including Lower Tier (aka Bottle Bay), the Cave Area and The Ivy League:  asccess is permitted here, providing climbers don't create a mess when removing loose rock and vegetation to garden routes and don't cut down any trees, however small. The landowner asks that climbers contact him (text is fine) on 07531001990 before climbing there so he knows who's about. Permission will normally be given. Updates on new routes will also be welcomed.

Open Book Bay: access not permitted by the landowners

Access seems.to be blocked by signs at gate. Only noticed on drive past, needs further investigation.
