Crag features

The Bingorms in the Derryveagh mountains of Donegal, Ireland, offer routes from 10m to over 200m. Spread along a line of faces stretching 4-5km with approachs between 20mins and 1hr, these high mountain crags offer some the finest mountain granite in donegal. Unfortunately, like a lot of Donegal mountain crags they get almost no climber attention due to:

a) The large vegetated ledges between the stretches of granite

b) The usually wet/seeping nature created by this vegtation and

c) The serious and committed nature of the climbing, even at the lower grades

The potential for new trad climbs, both single and multipitch is probably more than 100 linesĀ

Approach notes

All crags are approached from the R254 road along the lough Barra valley. Wild Camping is possible at a limited number of spots along the road but probably best either at the carpark at the top of the valley (north end) or at the Lough Barra car park at the south end. Approaches are often easiest following one of the many streams that run down to the road.
