The Tower at Alport Castles © TobyA

Crag features

A big landslip perhaps 300m long, with a long main face, 35-50m high of banded gritstone and a scenic tower below. Not a great idea in summer, although routes have been done here. Better in winter. Plenty to go at from easy gully lines to really desperate mixed lines.

Surprisingly solid rock. Take plenty of wires, cams and hexes. With a decent freeze and solid turf, the routes on the main face give good mixed terrain. Plenty of torqing and hooking on rock features and crucial turf - with bomber rock gear.

Compared to Mam Tor and Back Tor this is much more solid with scope for many lines.

Access Advice

Peregrines nest here most years, so avoid in the nesting season.

A huge pile of sticks and guano can be seen just left of the two ever-green trees next to a dead tree.
