A long and interesting scramble up the huge glacial apron to the north of the ‘Middle East Ridge (MER)’. The first ascent was used as an access line to get onto the MER and avoid the horrific moraine slog. Start by the shore and cross the glacier above it’s snout to gain moraine leading to the slabs.
Start by a point of weakness in the slabs on the right looking up to the glacier. Interesting gully’s and slabs are followed (trending left) until reaching the main water line (beneath a series of waterfalls. Cross at the lowest point and walk up a snow patch until reaching another line of weakness that is followed until reaching an obvious terrace (below the last band of rock before the hanging glacier. Follow this left until reaching more snow and a ‘hidden’ access Gully that leads onto the crest of the MER. See photo topo for line.
